Parnells reclaim intermediate title
From Irish World July 5 2016

Parnells 5-12Holloway Gaels 0-07

Parnells won back their county title at the weekend after a strong team performance against Holloway Gaels, in which they scored five goals.
They scored the first goal within just minutes of play starting, and just after an opening minute point from Anne Gormely. Immediately from the kick out Lauren Murray won possession and passed to Therese Marren who set up Sinead McCooey to the left of the square, before she shot across goal to put it into the bottom corener.
It was all one-way traffic to start as Tommy Donoghue’s side secured another two points through Murray and a Marren free to go 1-3 to 0-0 up before Holloway even had their first opportunity. When Holloway were in possession they played well, and this was seen as Ciara McGuinness made a great run down the right wing before passing to Charlotte Faughnan. Faughnan made a run at goal, and appeared to be pulled down in a collision with goalkeeper Maria King, but was not awarded the penalty her sideline team and management thought she deserved, and play resumed.
Parnells took advantage of their missed opportunity and Anne Gormley went on to take the next point before McCooey added another.

Sponsor Kevin Kelly, of Kelly Catering, present the Intermediate trophy to club captain Niamh Murphy with President Joe FrydayOne way trafficThey almost got another foal through Marren soon afterwards as she shot at open goal, as a nervy Holloway defence looked on, but fortunately for north London side her shot went wide. They would get their next goal through Amy Mee next as she put the ball under Caitriona Donnellan, before the Gaels got their only point of the half through a Caroline Hanley free.
Parnells would claim two more points before the break through Marren and Gormley to go into the break 2-6 to 0-1 up. They started up where they left off in the second half, as they scored a third goal within the first minute of play resuming. Hannah Noonan’s run set up Marren for a powerful shot that was going nowhere but beyond the reach of Donnelan.
The Gaels responded with two unanswered points, as Hanley set up Enya O’Donnell, before she got another free herself. Gormely would get another goal soon afterwards in a self-made score as she made a brilliant run down the left wing and her strength and pace kept her beyond the reach of the player marking her as she ran in front of goal and picked her spot brilliantly to put her side 3-8 to 0-3 in front.

Beano Collins presents the Man of Aran ‘Player of the Match’ award on behalf of Ambrose GordonDonnelan would claw back another pointed free, but the damage was already done. Although Holloway were impressive around midfield and the halfforward line they were not able to convert possession into chances and Parnells were too dangerous on the break, converting nearly every chance that fell to them.
Noonan would get the next goal as she made her own superb run from midfield, and booted a powerful shot in goal, before McCooey added another point. Donnelan would get her final point through a free afterwards, before her team mate Anne Marie Fitzgerald’s point attempt went in off the bar, even though she might have been able to go for goal.
It would be Holloway’s final point, before Parnells added a further three; one through a Marren free, and another from play before their substitute got the final score.

London Intermediate Championship v KKG
Sunday morning saw Holloway Gaels take on Kingdom Kerry Gaels in the last game of the championship to secure their place in the London Intermediate County Final. Both teams started well from the throw-in but Holloway Gaels soon started to dictate the pace, and with some excellent support play, ensured a comfortable lead going into the break. Unfortunately for KKG they struggled to get back into in the game in the second half. Despite some good ball into their forwards, the Holloway Gaels full back line proved too strong. The Holloway backs and mid-field fed the ball quickly from the breakdown into their forwards, who were sharp in front of the posts. KKG to their credit never gave up but in the Holloway Gaels put on a great display of free flowing football, and won out on a score line of 7-21 to 0-3. They now look forward to facing Parnells Ladies in the Intermediate County Final on Saturday July 2nd.
