2nd round Championship
Last Sunday Holloway Gaels continued their Intermediate London Championship campaign with a comfortable win over Fr. Murphy’s on a scoreline of 4-12 to 0-2. The Gaels started with great intensity and pace which never let up throughout the game. Fr. Murphy’s did not relent but the Holloway defence proved too strong and the Holloway midfield and forwards continued to break forward for some fantastic scores and ran out easy winners.

Next up for Holloway is Parnells in the 3rd round of the Intermediate Championship on Wednesday 1st June at Downhills at 7.30pm - all support welcome.

Last Sunday 9th May, Holloway Gaels kicked off their 2016 London Intermediate Championship campaign with a win over reigning champions Fulham Irish on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3.5. The Gaels started with great intensity and pace which never let up throughout the game. Fulham did not relent but the Holloway defence proved too strong and the Holloway midfield and forwards continued to break forward for some fantastic scores. Next up for Holloway is Fr.Murphys in the 2nd round of the Intermediate Championship on Sunday 22nd May in Scrubs at 12.30pm – all support welcome. See match report below for more details.

Pre-season Munich trip
On Friday 22nd April, Holloway Gaels set off to Munich as part of their annual pre-season trip. 27 girls from the club travelled and a fantastic weekend was had by all. A tournament featuring two Holloway teams (Spurs and Arsenal) and a team from St. Colmcilles Munich played an 11-a-side competition with Holloway team Spurs running out eventual winners. A massive thank you must go to St. Colmcilles of Munich, in particular former Holloway Gael Sinead Gordon, for hosting us and for the invite to Germany. A special thank you must also go to Hannah Fahey, Sorcha Durrant, Patrica McCarthy and Sylvia O’Sullivan for organising the trip, and to Ciara Holland for providing the entertainment for the weekend.

Congratulations and best wishes
Congratulations to Kerrie Browne on her entry into the London Rose Competition last Saturday, you did yourself proud and had the support of all the Holloways behind you. Best wishes also to our reigning Lovely Lady and solid full back Aoife Donnelly and Tadgh for their upcoming wedding this weekend in Tyrone.

1st round Championship vs Fulham Irish

8/5/2016

Playing in scorching temperatures of 27'C on the hottest day of the year so far, Holloway Gaels took on the 2015 Intermediate London Champions Fulham Irish in Scrubs in the first round of Championship last Sunday 8th May.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Holloway capitalised early and saw some lovely scores over the bar from Caroline Hanley, Marian O'Donnell, Mary Ellen Cannon and Caroline McKay. Mary Ellen Cannon was quick to find the back of the net and Holloway were soon comfortably ahead. Some great defensive play from Holloway backs Cliona Twohig, Ciara McGuinness and Emma Shorthall kept Fulham scoreless for much of the first 30 minutes; their only score of the half coming from a breakaway ball into the centre forward. More great support play resulted in a goal from O'Donnell and a fine point from Holloway half back Emma Mulhern left the Gaels with a score line of 2-7 to 0-1 at the halfway mark.

Holloway were first out of the starting blocks again in the 2nd half with some great play from midfielders McKay and Aileen Brady assisted by Anne-Marie Fitzgerald resulting in a point by Hanley right from the throw in. Holloway continued to push forward with more scores from Patrica McCarthy and Hanley. Fulham were beginning to find their feet and a few gaps in defence saw them through for a goal and a few points. Holloway were quick to respond with a goal in the back of the Holloway net from McKay. Aine Maguire and Sylvia Sullivan kept the pressure on the Fulham forwards but again they broke through to put another goal narrowly past keeper Caitriona Donnellan. Forwards Charlotte, Tara O’Hallort and Enya O’Donnell were instrumental in creating chances up front as Holloway continued to drive on, and a late penalty for Fulham was not enough to stop an overall powerful Holloway performance;  final score Holloway Gaels 4-10 Fulham Irish 3-5.

Next up for Holloway is Fr.Murphys in the 2nd round of the Intermediate Championship on Sunday 22nd May in Scrubs at 12.30pm.
