Last Wednesday, Holloway Gaels took to a sunny Downhills Park to take on Fr. Murphy's in the 3rd round of the London Ladies Senior League competition. Holloway were quick from the offset and had tallied a score of 2-1 within the first 5 minutes, with the 2 goals coming from Emma Mulhern and Sheila Walsh in quick succession. Another point came from Emma Mulhern and an unrelenting Holloway soon took control of the game with a ball down the left wing to Enya O'Donnell who let it in to Mulhern for another goal. Great work from backs Brenda Murtagh and Caitriona Donnellan kept Murphy's from attacking and the ball was soon back in the Holloway forwards with a superb point from play from Aileen Brady. This was followed up with more fine points from Mulhern and Walsh. Another Murphy's attack was quashed by Holloway defenders and a good clearance by Emma Shorthall and Sylvia O'Sullivan saw midfielder Patricia McCarthy lay it off to Caroline Hanley for another Holloway point. Kickout was won by Holloway and let in to Aisling Clifford who set up Caroline McKay for another fine point. The Gaels again were strong in defence and an excellent block by Cliona Twohig saw her charging down the field only to put the ball narrowly wide. However Holloway were soon back in possession with Karen Treacy passing to Enya O'Donnell who let it in to Aileen Brady and another point over the bar. Murphy's found their way through the Holloway defence but a fantastic clearance from goalkeeper Aisling Judge kept them scoreless. Final point of the 1st half game for Holloway came as Mulhern passed it off to Hanley who popped it over the bar. An opportunistic goal for Murphy's just before the half time whistle gave the girls in purple and gold their first score of the first half. Half time score: Holloway Gaels 3-8 Fr.Murphy's 1-0.
Holloway came bursting out of the blocks again in the 2nd half, McKay winning the thrown in and a quick ball off to O'Donnell to Hanley to McCarthy saw the ball placed neatly over the bar. Holloway were back in the driving seat. A point off the left foot of Aisling Clifford followed shortly and another great sequence of play saw Brady and McCarthy set up O'Donnell for another point. Substitutions for Holloway Aine Maguire for Sheila Walsh and Emily Ann Gilligan for Karen Treacy saw some fresh legs onto the field and they were quick to see some action as Fr Murphy's broke forward to score a point. However the ball was shortly back in Holloway forwards and a free taken by Emma Mulhern dropped in over the goalies head for another goal. More substitutions Joanne Healy for Catriona Donnellan and Hannah Fahey for Enya O'Donnellan and Holloway continued to be a thorn in the Murphy's defence with a point coming from midfielder McKay and a quick break from Mulhern let her through for yet another well placed goal. Next saw a series of wides from the Gaels as the heat of the evening was taking it's toll. However Aileen Brady kept driving forward and placed another point over the bar. A free from Emma Mulhern was the last score of the game, leaving the final score Holloway Gaels 5-16 Fr. Murphys 1-1. Race night
