Holloway lined out in their second encounter against Parnells this year on a fine sunny evening in Greenford. Parnells were first on the scoreboard with a well taken free. Within a few minutes Parnells converted another free. Holloway hit back with some great teamwork down the middle however Caroline McKay was unlucky not to convert her effort, missing out on a goal opportunity. Holloway had yet another goal chance this time Cliona Twohig in front of the goals - however a great defensive block from Parnells prevented Holloway from getting on the scoreboard. Parnells were quick to respond with two goals leaving the score 2.3 to 0.
Holloway however were not about to give up. With some great teamwork from half forward line Aine Maguire and Caroline Hanley the ball was passed into corner forward Aisling Clifford. Aisling quickly turned to get past her defender and got Holloway on the scoreboard with a fine point. Parnells responded well with another goal. Caroline Hanley demonstrated some excellent fielding skills to win the kickout. More great support play between Shelia Walsh and Emma Mulhern seen Aine Maguire next on the scoreboard with a well taken point. Holloway had all the play and nifty full forward Emma Mulhern was next on the scoreboard with a superb point. Some great defending saw Patricia McCarthy intercepting the Parnells play with Emma Mulhern narrowly missing out on a goal. Some great goal keeping skills from Aisling Judge prevented Parnells from increasing their lead however the rebound ball fell to Parnells who quickly converted their possession into a point. Holloway had more possession with Karen Treacy making a great run, and Anne Marie Fitzgerald supporting and Holloway were unlucky not to get another score. Parnells were quick to respond this time their ball hitting the crossbar. Holloway’s Brenda Murtagh was quick to respond and cleared the ball - however Parnells gained possession and took their chance to get another point. Holloway showed some excellent play with McCarthy, Twohig and Maguire all supporting one another passing the ball into full forward Emma Mulhern who then scored a fine point. Some great pressure by Sylvia O'Sullivan and Catriona Donnellan made sure Parnells attempt at goal hit wide. Holloway responded well with Aisling Clifford hitting the crossbar; however this time round she made sure to convert the rebound ball to a point. Annemarie Fitzgerald then responded with a great point but the ball was back up the field with another point from Parnells. Holloway’s Emma Mulhern was unlucky not to convert a score just before half time - the ball falling short into the Parnells goalies hands. Half time score Parnells 3.6 to Holloway 0.6 Into the 2nd hafl, Parnells were the first to gain possession and manage to get a penalty. A fine save by Aisling Judge in goals sees Holloway spirit lift and some great supportive play down the field see Holloway maintain possession. Unfortunately Holloway’s effort is wide but Parnells make no mistake and they respond with a point. This time Holloway are more clinical with Aine Maguire responding with a point. Holloways defence worked hard with Syliva O'Sullivan and Brenda Murtagh gaining possession and moving it out of the danger zone. However Parnells intercepted and hit another point. Holloway continued with their fighting spirit but missed out on another goal chance. Cliona then intercepted a ball brilliantly and Holloway won a free. Anne- Marie steped up to score a point leaving it 3.8 to 0.8. Holloway gained confidence and had most of the possession but were unable to convert the possession into scores. Some great defending by Brenda Murtagh sees McCarthy hitting a score quickly followed by Shelia Walshe. Holloway worked hard to the end with Cliona Twohig and Emma Shorthall in centre back making some great tackles. Unfortunately Holloway were unable to get some more scores in the last 5 minutes hitting 4 wides. Parnell’s got the final say with another point leaving the final score 3.9 to 0.10 in Parnell's favour.
