2015 has been a fantastic year for the Gaels, with success both on and off the field.
The success of 2015 culminated last Saturday the 28th November with the Holloway Gaels AGM, player awards and Christmas party night held at the Quays of Holloway Road. Secretary Hannah Fahey kicked off proceedings by welcoming everyone and thanking the Quays for hosting and for their continued support. Hannah congratulated the team on reaching the London Intermediate Final and also getting to the semi-final stages of both the Senior League and Senior Cup competitions, along with participating in the Mary Fryday and Ann Dunning tournaments. Treasurer Brenda Murtagh gave a financial overview of the year, which included the Holloway Race Night held in June which helped raise vital funds for the club. Chairperson Aileen Brady spoke of the main Holloway highlights of the year – the pre-season trip to Rome, another successful Ann Dunning tournament, the launch of Gaelic4Girls and predominately, the opening of the clubs new home grounds Downhills Park which was a huge achievement for Holloway Gaels. Aileen then thanked coaches Evan Byrne and Tosh Kilcommons for their hard work and commitment over the year and also extended a special thank you to Macdara Woods who played a huge role in training sessions and fundraising this year. Helen Hagen then stepped up to present the player awards. Winners were Best Newcomer Emma Mulhern, Most improved Joanne Healy, Player of the Year Caroline Hanley and Club Person of the Year Aileen Brady. Helen also thanked Aileen on behalf of the club for the huge work she has done over the last number of years and wished her the best of luck for the future as she steps down as Chairperson and gets set for married life with Evan Byrne this December. A special congratulations to our newly crowned Lovely Lady Aoife Donnelly who scooped up the hotly contested award on the night - best of luck for your reign as Holloway's loveliest lady Donnelly! The club would also like to wish the best of luck to the new committee of 2016 who were elected on the night. Following the AGM, the Gaels then set of on a 12 pubs of Christmas along the Holloway Road – big thank you to Cliona Twohig and Sylvia O’Sullivan for organising a very successful and memorable night. Finally, a big congratulations to Helen Hagen and to former manager and player Paul and Hilary Maher on their new arrivals in 2015, to former manager Gavin Hattie on his recent nuptials and good luck to all involved in the upcoming Holloway weddings! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all from the Holloway Gaels and here’s to much success for the club in 2016!
