Holloway Gaels Club Notes
Round 3 Senior League - 22/05/2017
Holloway Gaels were happy to welcome Round Towers for the first time to Downhills Park. An excellent contest that was end to end throughout ended a two point game in favour of the home team. This game gave HG their third win in league to date.
Round 1 Senior Championship - 11/06/2017
Holloway met reigning champions, Parnell’s in Greenford for 12.30pm throw in. An exciting and clean game of football but unfortunately Parnell’s were able to use the strong wind much better and held a solid lead at half time that Holloway couldn't trim. Well done to both teams on a great game of football (team photo above - by Lucia Butler).
The Gaels welcome newly promoted Tir Chonaill Gaels to Downhills on Wednesday 21st June 2017, throw in 7.30pm.
Downhills Gathering - Sat 24th June 2017
Next Saturday, 24th Holloway Gaels Ladies, Eire Og and Finsbury Park Rugby Club will be holding a sports day. From 12pm on-wards, locals and anybody interested in attending are welcome to join the three teams for some fun in sun (hopefully).

Senior League – Round 2 - Greenford
A very well contested game whereby the scoreline under-valued the Murphy's. Holloway were pleased to get another win under the belt!
Well done to the new players who made their debut on the day.

Senior League – Round 1
Holloway Gaels – 8-15
Thomas McCurtains 1-02
On Saturday afternoon in Goodmayes Holloway Gaels and Thomas McCurtains opened the 2017 Ladies Senior League.
Thomas McCurtains settled into the game straight away with a goal in the opening five minutes. Holloway tried to clear their lines but McCurtains added another point from play and another fantastically taken free by their full forward, leaving it 1-.02 to no score.
After eventually settling into the game, Holloway broke up the pitch and levelled the game in a matter of minutes, points from midfielder Caroline McKay, Gaels newbie Emma McShane and Mary Ellen Cannon rattled the back of the onion bag for her first of the day.
From here on in it was a one-sided affair although McCurtains battled on but with a strong defence in place Holloway were able to move at pace and pull the game away from the East London side. Holloway captain Caroline Hanley was instrumental in building the attack from defence to attack allowing Cannon to add to her tally for the half with a hat-trick of goals, McShane adding another two and Enya O’Donnell adding two points and a goal, which O’Donnell claimed but may have had some assistance from a McCurtains player.
Half time read Thomas McCurtains 1-.02 Holloway Gaels 5-.06.
Again, McCurtains started the second half brightly but the Gaels defence were able to snuff out any form of attack. Emma Mulhern and Ruanne Hunt showing great strength. O’Donnell and Hanley both with a point from play. Clare Cullen added to the goal count. And further points from Holloway legend Aileen Brady-Bryne, McShane, Cannon and Ann Marie Fitzgerald meant the Gaels were out of sight.
McCurtains continued to apply pressure but the gaels defence were not giving in so easily, Holloway keeper Sheila Walshe was fantastic all afternoon and through constant support from her full back line Caitriona Donnellan, Hunt and Sylvia O’Sullivan was always able to find a black and red shirt.
Charlotte Faughnan and Holloway trouper Aisling Clifford came on to add to the score board with a goal each. Final points from Fitzgerald and Cullen finished off the game for Holloway.
An impressive win by the Holloway Gaels but its still early days.
A wonderful day was had in Greenford on the 11th March 2017.
A huge thank you to the KKG, Fr. Murphy's. St. Marys and Tara's teams who always come along to help remember Ann. HG also showed great respect for the work Ann had done for our club and arrived in their numbers to enter two teams on the day.
After all teams competing in tough, enjoyable and fiercely competitive games, the final was eventually contested by St. Marys of Reading and the believed-to-be-weaker, Holloway Gaels team After a tight first half, St. Marys began to push on and show their fitness with a flurry of goals which Holloway had no answer for. In the end St Mary's ran home comfortable and deserving winners.
This Saturday from 10 am the tournament takes place, with TCG Greenford kindly allowing us to host there. It should be a great day and one dedicated to a founding member of our club. Ann would be proud this year as for the first time ever there will be underage girls teams taking part. New and old members from Holloway will be attending and a big thank you to the clubs already confirmed to take part.
A great day out was had last Saturday 5th of November when Holloway Gaels attended the training session of the North London Shamrocks Youth girls team in Tottenhall Playing Grounds. The Holloway ladies played an exhibition game; giving an great opportunity for the younger girls to see a game of Ladies Gaelic football; before participating in a mixed game where they got to show off their own new skills! Well done to all involved and a very proud day for both clubs to see the new up and coming future stars of Ladies Gaelic football in North London.
